Alan is a Chartered Naval Architect with over 25 years of experience in the Marine Industry. Since graduating from Newcastle University in 1999, Alan has worked for a number of companies on projects both in the UK and abroad including Europe, USA and New Zealand.
Companies Alan has worked for include, Green Marine, GURIT, Farr Yacht Design, BMT (Nigel Gee), King Marine, Bavaria Yachts, Land Rover BAR, INEOS Team UK and Artemis Technologies.
Projects range from series production to custom builds with emphasis on design, build support, weights and compliance. Work has included cruising yachts, river boats, commercial craft, search and rescue, round the world racing yachts and America’s Cup Foiling Boats.
Areas of expertise include designing for production, composite material selection and validation, weight calculation and reporting, project management and compliance support. Alan is also passionate about sustainability and is developing that further as a core part of Boot & Co. Naval Architecture.
As part of being a Chartered Naval Architect with the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA), Alan is a mentor to a number of Graduate Naval Architects and will be visiting universities to present to undergraduates from September 2025 onwards.
Outside of work, Alan is a keen cyclist (with far too many bikes) and when not on a bike can be found out and about with his family and dogs.
Hannah graduated from the University of Strathclyde in 2017 with a degree in Naval Architecture with High Performance Marine Vehicles. Since then, Hannah has gained a broad range of experience in the development of small craft, from early concept design through to manufacture and trials. She has worked for a number of companies on projects within the commercial, leisure and defence industries.
Hannah has conducted a wide variety of stability assessments and is proficient with the use of Naval Architecture software programs to aid with this. Hannah is also an experienced CAD user and has been responsible for developing and managing numerous complex projects and assemblies. She has lead on the adoption and integration of PLM systems and also has experience in procurement and project management.
Hannah also has a keen interest in sustainable materials and technologies and the application of these in particular to small craft. She welcomes increased environmental regulations within the maritime industry and recognises that practises at all stages of design and production must evolve to lessen environmental impact.
Hannah is a Chartered Engineer with the Royal Institute of Naval Architects and enjoys sailing and hiking in the Scottish mountains in her spare time. She also has a passion for travel, and loves to ski or scuba dive whilst abroad.
